One of the things I’m finding that I love about being a licensed real estate agent is the access to data!!
BACK STORY
I love data. I’ve always loved data. Raw data that I can play with, explore, even question. I was a weird kid (back before being nerdy was considered cool) who played sports but then kept my own little league (basketball and baseball) statistics, wiffle ball statistics and when that was done used to read the tables of historical stats in baseball/basketball/football encyclopedias. I even kept the scorebook and stats for my dad’s recreational softball team, which means we had/have team records dating back to 1978 through 2010 when I retired from the team (note: the team is still in existence nearly 50 years later although my dad retired in 1993 and I retired a few years ago because of back issues. My best friend from childhood is still playing for the team despite being over 50 years old with a hip replacement!!). In my professional life, I began keeping all my prospecting and sales data dating back to 2005, and have copious amounts of data surrounding that. in short, I love RAW data in the same way I love chocolate — I can’t consume enough of it.
FAST FORWARD TO TODAY
How excited I was to learn AFTER getting licensed that there is soooooooooooo much data available on real estate!! And that there are classes available for this data (I took a great reporting class yesterday that was free from MLS). And from that I can derive statistics that are both fun (i.e. pointless) and instructive (meaningful, as in recent trends).
To that end, I spent yesterday analyzing the past few Januaries in the Seattle real estate market. I’d love to say it was work, but actually it was fun AND it helps Larissa and I in our quest to be a good and informed greater Seattle real estate team.
I will be reaching out to some of my Seattle Real Estate Connections via email to see if they are interested in my sharing some insights. If you are reading this, did not receive an email but are interested in a few bullet points about the current state of the Seattle real estate market, please message me here or send me a note (robmathison@bhhsnw.com).
Wishing you a great weekend!
